No Easy Answers

Congressman Stephen Lynch visited Milton today, bringing his wisdom and friendship.

We met at a coffeeshop in the Square. The Times editor, Mike Whelan, and I had a chance to find out more of what the Congressman is thinking about economic recovery, healthcare, and more.

The Congressman, who is now chair of the subcommittee on Federal Workforce, Postal Service and the District of Columbia. It’s an odd grouping. But in that capacity Cong. Lynch was able to “mark-up” a bill dealing with the way the post office pays its future healthcare benefits. (Mark-up means release in political speak.)

The bill won’t save the post office. But it is a step in the right direction for an agency that is otherwise expected to lose billions this year. And yet the postal service is mandated to meet its costs.
